Microsoft New Look Logo – High Res

Microsoft Corp unveiled its first new logo in 25 years on Thursday as it looks to unify its branding ahead of a clutch of new product releases this year.

The world’s largest software company is introducing a dash of color in its first logo redesign since 1987, using a new multi-colored square next to a plain rendering of its name, replacing its well-worn italic style logo.

Microsoft is rolling out its new Windows 8 operating system along with new Office and phone software this autumn, and is hoping the new logo unifies customers’ experience of the company, much like rival Apple Inc’s distinctive logo has for its consumers.

Sagi Haviv, who designed logos for the Library of Congress and Armani Exchange, thinks the logo simply isn’t distinctive enough. By opting for a simple array of four colored squares, Haviv says Microsoft missed a big opportunity.

“Because they’re so big they’re in a position to do something great,” he says. “And this unfortunately is not something great. And it’s because it’s a bit too generic.”

Microsoft Tablet – Surface To Come With Wifi at Launch

The software maker's tablets will be available only with Wi-Fi at launch, according to Bloomberg published on Friday, June 22, 2012 said.

According to the report, two people familiar with the matter who declined to be identified because the full specifications of Surface are not yet made public said that the device will be equiped with a Wifi short-range connection only. Connections to mobile phone networks will not be available, initially.

Ben Bajarin, an analyst at technology consulting firm Creative Strategies reportedly told Bloomberg that Microsoft‘s decision to use Wifi-only models may enable it to keep the costs of the device down. However, Bajarin also said that it “could curtail” Microsoft‘s efforts to promote the device as something that can be used anywhere and in any way.

Meanwhile, Carolina Milanesi, an analyst at researcher Gartner Inc. told Bloomberg that Wifi-only is not a limitation for Surface. Milanesi reportedly said that most tablet customers are still using the devices mainly at home where they have Wifi because of concerns about the cost of monthly data plans on mobile phone connections.

The report also said that Microsoft has already contracted with Pegatron Corp, a Taiwanese company that assembles Apple‘s iPhones, to manufacture the Surface.

Superior multi-touch mouse of Microsoft Review [VIDEO]

mstouchmouse.jpg
Microsoft Touch Mouse makes navigating Windows 7 a breeze. Discover how its elegant design quickly handles everyday on-screen actions like scrolling, minimizing/maximizing, and docking with easy-to-learn finger gestures.

Hardware and the Design:
The mouse features rounded soft corners and a comfortable slope to rest your hand and wrist on. The surface of the mouse is made of matte plastic and features rows of raised dots and x’s. The rows outline the multitouch parts of the mouse surface. The bottom of the mouse features a shiny white plastic surface with quick access to the two AA batteries for the device. Microsoft has also created an area inside the bottom of the mouse to house the USB transceiver, presumably aimed at laptop users. Microsoft also ships a USB extension cable as part of the package to minimise any potential interference.
Microsoft Touch Mouse.jpg
Microsoft has designed the mouse for ambidextrous use. Both left and right-handed users can operate it with ease. The mouse fits either hand comfortably. The Touch Mouse also features BlueTrack technology. The technology enables smooth tracking on most surfaces apart from clear glass or mirrors.

Setup:
Plugging in the micro-transceiver brings up a full screen instructional guide on how to use the mouse. The quick eight step guide teaches you how to use all the touch functions of the mouse, including hiding and showing windows, maximizing and minimizing, Aero Snap, and your back and forth buttons. The entire mouse uses gesture controls, except of course your left and right click buttons. For example, to minimize all your windows, you simply drag three fingers from the tip of the mouse in towards your palm, and reverse to reveal them all.

Pros and Cons:
Pros:
  • Gestures are very easy to use
  • Great look and feel, very comfortable to hold
  • Works on any surface and has great precision
Cons:
  • $79.99 MSRP for a mouse
  • Not really intended to be a gaming mouse
  • No middle click button
Price and Availability:
The Microsoft Touch Mouse is available in stores now and has an MSRP of $79.99, although I have seen it cheaper on some retail chains' web sites.
