Hewlett-Packard on October 1 unveiled its ElitePad 900 Windows 8 tablet targeting business users.

HP's ElitePad 900 will be an 11-inch, 1.5 pound device, complete with 3G/4G connectivity. The 1.5-pound tablet is comprised of CNC-machined aluminum and Gorilla Glass. The tablet also features an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 1080p front-facing offering for video chat.

The tablet will run on Windows 8 software and Atom-based Intel processor, 2 GB RAM and a choice between 32 and 64 GB storage options. It will get about 10 hours of battery life per charge.

Other accessory options include a tablet pen, rugged protection case and a docking station. The dock is the most interesting option here and aims to create a desktop-like experience by providing support for a second monitor, full-sized keyboard an array of extra ports.

The Xyboard 8.2 is a tablet computer that was released around the end of last year by the company that paved the way to those tablet devices that sported the then new Android Honeycomb OS. The Xyboard 8.2 is the successor of the first Honeycomb tablet, the Motorola Xoom. In fact, it seems that elsewhere other than the U.S., the Xyboard is called the Xoom 2. In addition to some revamped specs, the Xyboard is, not surprisingly, both thinner and lighter than the 10.1-inch Xoom. It's also lighter than the 9.7-inch iPad 2, but Apple's tablet is still a hair skinnier.

The good: The Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2 is thin and light, with one of the brightest screens we've seen on a tablet. It also includes Micro-HDMI, a 5-megapixel camera that performs well, powerful speakers, and fast 4G LTE speeds, and it can act as a universal remote.
The bad: The tablet doesn't offer a compelling-enough experience to warrant signing a two-year contract or buying it outright for its $600 off-contract price. Also, navigation was plagued by frequent hangs, the placement of the power button and volume rocker is annoying, and the aluminum plate on the back looks shoddily implemented.
The bottom line: Although thin and light, with fast 4G LTE speeds, the Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2 is impossible for us to recommend at its current price.

The software maker's tablets will be available only with Wi-Fi at launch, according to Bloomberg published on Friday, June 22, 2012 said.

According to the report, two people familiar with the matter who declined to be identified because the full specifications of Surface are not yet made public said that the device will be equiped with a Wifi short-range connection only. Connections to mobile phone networks will not be available, initially.

Ben Bajarin, an analyst at technology consulting firm Creative Strategies reportedly told Bloomberg that Microsoft‘s decision to use Wifi-only models may enable it to keep the costs of the device down. However, Bajarin also said that it “could curtail” Microsoft‘s efforts to promote the device as something that can be used anywhere and in any way.

Meanwhile, Carolina Milanesi, an analyst at researcher Gartner Inc. told Bloomberg that Wifi-only is not a limitation for Surface. Milanesi reportedly said that most tablet customers are still using the devices mainly at home where they have Wifi because of concerns about the cost of monthly data plans on mobile phone connections.

The report also said that Microsoft has already contracted with Pegatron Corp, a Taiwanese company that assembles Apple‘s iPhones, to manufacture the Surface.

The Le Pan III was previewed during CES 2012, where it was shown to be running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It will have a TI OMAP 4460, 1.5 GHz Dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 32 GB via micro SD.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich aboard are easily the biggest news surrounding the release of Google’s newest mobile OS, it would seem that Google is already ramping up its efforts to show off the tablet-based capabilities of the system. After Samsung Galaxy Nexus finally launching with the brand new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich now seeing what appears to be our first actual glimpse of Ice Cream Sandwich on a tablet, even if it’s just a render.

Honeycomb looked like on the tablet, complete with the three buttons in the lower left (updated to reflect the change in icons now) as well as the slightly more cyan-colored accents. Icons sit on the first homepage as they would otherwise, and the time in the lower right-hand corner is updated to the new font made specifically for this system alongside a wi-fi signal and a full battery. The new NVIDIA Tegra 3 teaser video that is named Kal-El, is leaking. Processor that has a quad-core ARM Cortex A9 will be accompanied by a fifth Cortex A9 core clocked at 500 MHz when running a task such as browsing or listening to music. Its performance charts sung by 12-core graphics engine that helps the processor to beat the performance of an Intel Core 2 Duo.

This processor is also expected to double the performance of NIVIDA s Tegra 2 for standard usage, and of course going to triple the visual speed of previous versions. NVIDIA Tegra 3 can play a video with a resolution of 2560x1440 and operate on the external screen size of 30 inches. The ASUS Transformer 2 is expected to become the first tablet that will feel the power of the NVIDIA Tegra 3.

Toshiba has officially launced a new tablet that will be operated with Android Honeycomb, the Thrive 7.

Based on its name, this tablet will have a 7 inch screen with a resolution 1280X800p, which will be smaller than its predecessor tablets, The Thrive, which has a 10.1-inch screen.

Differences seen through the thin outer design is only 0.48 inches (12mm), the difference with The Thrive is somewhat thick. Amazon to Reveal Kindle Fire Tablet, the choice of name is apparently meant to set it apart from the current e-ink based Kindle readers. The Fire is expected to be a 7-inch Android tablet most probably armed with a Gingerbread or Honeycomb OS. It looks quite similar to the Blackberry Playbook.

The BlackBerry Playbook connection has been traced to original design manufacturer (ODM), Quanta, which designed the PlayBook and is the same outfit used by Amazon for the Kindle Fire. The Kindle Fire will run on a TI dual-core OMAP chip, the same chip used by the PlayBook and the clock-speed is rumored to be 1.2 GHz.

The Amazon Kindle Fire is expected to sell for $249 a pop. Even if that translates to £249 over here, I’d still be seriously tempted.

Toshiba Europe has just unveiled its 7 millimeter-thick Android 3.2 AT200 tablet.

Android tablet offering, the Honeycomb 3.2, 10.1-inch AT200. Measuing in at a mere 7.7mm thick, the Toshiba AT200 comes in as one of the thinnest Honeycomb slates yet, making even the anorexic Galaxy Tab 10.1 look like a whale.

Tucked within the tablet is a 1.2GHz TI OMAP 4430 CPU, 5MP and 2MP cameras, and up to 64GB of on-board storage. The new Toshiba offering is decked out with microUSB, microHDMI, and microSD support.


The Toshiba AT200 allows users to enjoy videos at home and while out and about. It features a brilliant 25.7cm (10.1″) high-definition screen that displays pictures with crisp colours and in full detail.

The Toshiba AT200 is scheduled to be released in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2011. The price has not yet been announcedo.

Tablet maker X10 claims it has “the best tablet on the market for under $200″ in the AirPad, a 7-inch tablet that runs on Android 2.3 and is equipped with 1.2 Ghz Rockchip 2918 Cortex A8 processor, 4 GB memory expandable up to 32 GB via microSD, and a 2 megapixel camera.

X10 says you “won’t find a better tablet at a better price”.

Excluding the discounted $99 HP TouchPad, X10′s AirPad indeed looks to have the best set of specs for the price. The AirPad is now available in the US.
